Students by a ballot box in Bruton High School

91% turnout at Bruton School!

The Conservative Party won a decisive victory at Bruton School for Girls by winning 69 votes more than the next party, the Greens. The voter turnout put the national average for the General Election to shame at an impressive 91%. In a week long campaign leading up to Election Day, Senior School and Sixth Form students mirrored the real elections by representing the major parties and canvassing for support.

Director of Studies, Mr John Burrough who organised the Mock Elections was pleased with the School’s elections especially the large percentage of students voting. “It is great to see so many of the girls casting their votes in the Mock Elections. It means that all of our students are able to use the experience to learn more about democracy and the election process.” Mr Burrough said. “All the candidates ran excellent, well-researched campaigns and congratulations to the Conservatives for their win.”
