Mr Hugh Henry MSP, Minister for Education and Young People
"I am delighted to hear about your mock elections project and the value that it has in teaching young people about the decision-making process.
Scottish Ministers recognise the contribution that young people make in the decision-making process and encourage young people to actively participate in local and national policy making.
It is crucially important that young people have an understanding of the decision-making processes that impact on their lives and their communities. Curriculum for Excellence and the Education for Citizenship agenda aim to encourage young people to not only become active and informed participants in their communities but also nationally and internationally.
Young people need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to make personal and social decisions and the Y Vote Mock Elections are an excellent example of assisting this by helping raise the awareness of the importance of our democratic processes"
